Application Lifecycle Management (ALM)
Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) for Code Apps
Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) manages an app from development to production and maintenance. For Power Apps code apps, ALM extends Power Platform practices to applications that include custom code.
Why ALM is Important?
- Ensures consistency across Development, Test, and Production environments
- Enforces governance, security, and compliance standards
- Enables predictable and reliable deployments
Prerequisites
- Power Platform environment with Dataverse
- Latest Power Platform CLI (PAC)
- Non-default solution (preferred solution recommended)
Solution Management
-
Preferred solution:
- Code apps deployed using pac code push are saved to the preferred solution by default
- Helps avoid using the default solution
-
Add app to a specific solution:
- Use CLI
-
Or add via Power Apps UI:
- Go to Power Apps → Solutions
- Select solution → Add existing → App → Code app
Deploy Using Power Platform Pipelines
- Deploy apps across environments (Dev → Test → Prod)
-
Built-in checks for:
- Dependencies
- Connection references
- Environment readiness
Connection References
- Used to manage environment-specific connections
- Recommended for clean ALM and deployment portability
Limitations
Code apps do not support:
- Solution Packager
- Source code integration
