Power BI Access Types
Embed for Your Customers
This option securely shares dashboards and reports with external users who don't have Power BI licenses or Microsoft Entra authentication. It relies on Power BI Embedded services and supports role-based security and report filtering.
Important: If a page allows anonymous access, embedded dashboards may become publicly visible. Configure page permissions carefully to protect sensitive information.Embed for Your Organization
This option is designed for authenticated Microsoft Entra ID users. Only users with appropriate workspace access can view the embedded content.
Publish to Web
Publish to Web makes dashboards and reports publicly accessible to anyone on the internet without authentication.
Warning: Do not use Publish to Web for confidential or sensitive business data. Ensure compliance with your organization's security and data-sharing policies.General Considerations
- Performance may be affected when users have access to many workspaces.
- Paginated Power BI reports are not supported.
- Shared datasets from different workspaces are not supported.
- Changes to Power Pages settings may require reloading Design Studio.
- User access updates may take time to appear in Design Studio.
- The powerbi-client JavaScript library can be used for advanced customization.
Best Practices
- Use role-based security whenever possible.
- Restrict access to sensitive reports and dashboards.
- Choose the correct access type based on your audience.
- Test report performance before publishing.
- Use report filters to display relevant data.
- Regularly review workspace permissions and security settings.
Summary
The Power BI Component enables organizations to integrate powerful analytics and reporting capabilities directly into Microsoft Power Pages. By selecting the appropriate access method, configuring security settings, and following best practices, you can deliver secure and interactive data experiences to your users.
